Behind This Tea

Li Shan, or "Pear Mountain," is situated in central Taiwan, with tea plantations located at elevations between 1,800 and 2,650 meters, one of the highest tea plantations in the world.

The Li Shan area in central Taiwan was widely known for growing high-quality pears, peaches, and apples before tea plantation. The cool, misty high-altitude environment provided ideal conditions for these fruit trees, leading to the area's nickname.

When tea cultivation began in the region about 60 years ago, the same environmental conditions that were perfect for pear orchards also proved to be excellent for tea plants. The dramatic temperature differences between day and night slow the growth of the tea plants, allowing the leaves to develop a richer concentration of nutrients and flavours. The consistent cloud cover and reduced sunlight result in thicker leaves with higher pectin content, contributing to a softer, creamier texture.
