    • Our Honey Duchess a.k.a Gui Fei Oolong won the silver prize in the spring competition in the well-known Lugu (Deer Valley) township. This exquisite tea is made from leaves that have been bitten by the little green leafhopper, giving it a natural while subtle sweetness similar to honey. The leaves are then medium roasted in the traditional Dong Ding style from Lugu, resulting in a well-balanced tea with rich layers of aromas and unique flavors.

The main aroma is a clean and stable roasted scent, reminiscent of Longyan charcoal. Upon tasting, you'll notice subtle honey sweetness in the middle notes, adding complexity to its iconic Dong Ding style floral and woody base. The aftertaste is round and lingering, leaving a satisfying experience.

Our Gui Fei Oolong uses single cultivar: Chin-Shin Oolong, unlike other versions of Gui Fei Oolong that use a blend of tea cultivars to mimic the special sweetness from the bites of the little green leafhopper. Our tea roasting process requires mastery skills to maintain this subtle aroma and sweetness. Our limited batch will ensure harmonious flavors and authentic experience for tea enthuiastics.

For the best drinking experience, please follow our temperature and brewing guidelines.

    Behind This Tea

In 1999, a powerful earthquake struck Taiwan, causing significant damage and disrupting local agriculture, including tea plantations. During the recovery period, many tea gardens were left unattended, allowing nature to take its course.

A particular species of tiny insect known as the tea leafhopper (Jacobiasca formosana) began to infest the tea leaves. The bites from these insects initiated a unique chemical reaction in the tea leaves. The plant’s natural defense mechanism produced a honey-like aroma and flavor.

The tea's name, inspired by the famous Chinese historical figure Yang Guifei, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, adds to its allure and prestige. Today, Gui Fei Oolong is celebrated as one of Taiwan’s most premium teas. Its production requires a delicate balance of natural influences and skilled craftsmanship. The tea is often featured in tea competitions and is a symbol of resilience and innovation in Taiwanese tea culture.
