    • Dong Ding Oolong is semi-oxidised medium-roasted oolong tea.

Our Dong Ding Oolong tea leaves are carefully hand-picked and processed through a meticulous series of steps including withering, rolling, oxidising, and roasting. Undergoing over 20 hours of repeated roasting, this complex process is essential in developing the tea's distinctive characteristics: a rich, floral aroma with a smooth, sweet, and slightly toasty flavour.

Our batch of Dong Ding Oolong tea was directly sealed and shipped right after the 2024 Spring tea competition from the Lugu Farmer's Association.

The pre-infused tea leaves have a rich aroma of ripe plum, pear peel note, pineapple and elegant baked grain note, which stands for an outstanding and balanced Dong Ding oolong profile. The tea liquor is pure, vibrant and bright. The astringent is very low comparing to normal Dong Ding Oolong in the market, with a relaxed throat-feel thanks to its precious roasting heat and time control, providing an elegant and unmatched soothing experience for a roasted oolong tea.

    Behind This Tea

The name "Dong Ding" translates to "Frozen Summit" or "Icy Peak," reflecting the high altitude and cool climate of the region where the tea is grown. The story of Dong Ding Oolong begins with a man named Lin Fengchi, who, in the mid-1800s, traveled to the Wuyi Mountains in China’s Fujian Province. There, he acquired tea plants and brought them back to Taiwan, planting them on Dong Ding Mountain in Lu Gu (Deer Valley) township. The unique combination of Taiwanese soil, climate, and traditional Chinese tea-making techniques resulted in the creation of a new and exceptional tea. The tea’s fame spread internationally due to its unique flavour profile and high quality, often highlighted in global tea competitions and festivals. Today, it remains one of Taiwan's most treasured teas.

The tin lid shown in the picture was our original packaging used for the competition teas in Lu Gu (Deer Valley) township, where the heart production of Dong Ding Oolong is. On the tin it has four Chinese characters “吉獸嘉木” (ji shou jia mu) refers to auspicious animals and excellent woods, because deer are considered auspicious animals, and tea is regarded as an excellent plant. Together, “吉獸嘉木” (ji shou jia mu) symbolize the highest praise for Lugu Township's Dong Ding Oolong Tea.
